Border Pinks have been popular in gardens for centuries. This selection produces large, double, deep velvety red blossoms that are randomly splashed and streaked with rose-pink. The flowers are held erect on long, upright stems over a compact mound of blue-green foliage. Flowers have a spicy fragrance which only adds to an already wonderful bouquet. Attractive to butterflies. Excellent for edging, rock gardens and in mixed containers. Deadhead regularly to encourage more buds to form. Plants require good drainage and are an excellent choice for hot dry sites or gravelly soils. Combines beautifully with other low alpine plants. The flower petals of all types of Dianthus are edible.
