Gaillardia × grandiflora ‘Amber Wheels’

Blanket Flower

USDA Zone: 2-9

Plant number: 1.220.070

Blanket Flowers are valuable in the summer border for their very long season of bloom. They form low mounds of light-green leaves, bearing upright stems of large daisy-type flowers. This tall selection has blooms of a clear golden-yellow, the petals surrounding a button of orange-red. Terrific for cutting, with nice long stems. Attractive to butterflies. Drought tolerant once established. Plants should be divided every 2 to 3 years, in early spring. Not the best choice for heavy clay soil that will stay wet through the winter. Removing faded flowers will encourage continual blooming. May require staking if grown in rich, moist soil. A 2006 introduction, bred by Jelitto Seeds of Germany.
