Carlina acaulis subsp. simplex bronze form
Bronze Friendly-thistle |
USDA Zone: 3-9 |
Plant number: 1.114.500
Also called Alpine Thistle. This is not a thistle to be afraid of, but a well-behaved rock garden perennial. It forms a low rosette of bronzy-green, prickly thistle leaves, with huge heads of silvery-white flowers with a rusty-brown centre, nestling just above the leaves. Performs well in hot, sunny sites, even with poor soil. Combines beautifully with other Xeriscape plants, such as Blue Fescue, Yucca, creeping Sedums, Artemisia or Lavender. Unique in alpine troughs and other containers. A friendly thistle!
