(=Actaea racemosa) This is usually the first Bugbane species to bloom, beginning in mid summer. Tall wands of creamy white bottle-brush flowers are held high above bright green, lacy foliage. Splendid for cutting! Bugbanes prefer a moist, rich soil, away from hungry tree roots. Native to a wide area of Eastern North America. Will tolerate full sun in cool summer regions, otherwise be sure to protect from hot afternoon sun. Also performs well in tubs or mixed containers. Plants take about three years to develop into a mature sized clump. May be divided in spring, but plants awhile to re-establish.
