Cotula hispida

A cute and unusual little alpine plant, this forms a low cushion of ferny silver-grey leaves, resembling Silver Mound Artemisia. In late spring taller wiry stems appear, bearing yellow button flowers for several weeks. Best grown in a well-drained rock garden, gravel scree, or trough container. Avoid heavy clay soils, as this dislikes winter wet. Tolerates drought once established. Evergreen in mild winter areas, plants may be lightly pruned or tidied in spring. Native to South Africa, but possibly hardy in Zone 5 or colder.
