Ligularia przewalskii ‘Dragon’s Breath’

Sometimes called Elephant Ears, this is a bold specimen perennial that needs a moist location. This selection is a smaller garden-sized variety and forms a mound of large, elegant deeply-cut dark green leaves. Taller black stems appear in mid to late summer, bearing bright golden-yellow daisy flowers. Exotic and tropical looking. Superb for the middle of the border, when massed, at the waterside and as a specimen container plant. Both the flowers and leaves are great for cutting. Slugs can be troublesome. Clumps may be divided in the spring, every 3 to 4 years if desired. In warm summer regions plan to grow this in at least afternoon shade. A 2009 introduction from Terra Nova Nurseries of Oregon.
