Sisyrinchium californicum ‘Yellow Stone’

Not really a grass, these unique little perennials are close cousins of the more familiar garden Iris. This variety is similar in appearance to ‘Lucerne’ except that it produces yellow flowers instead of blue. It is native to the west coast from British Columbia to California and can be found at the edge of bogs and in moist grasslands. Bright yellow, star-like flowers appear at the tips of the grassy foliage from spring through early summer. You may even see flowers sporadically throughout the summer if it is happy in its location. Hummingbirds, butterflies and seed-eating birds are attracted to its flowers.
