Eucomis ‘Oakhurst’

Purple Pineapple Lily

USDA Zone: 8-10

Plant number: 4.212.150

Pineapple Lily is a tender bulb, best grown in pots in cold regions for wintering indoors. Gardeners in Zones 8 and up may enjoy these as hardy perennials. This forms a large rosette of strap-shaped leaves, green at first then changing to deep burgundy-red. Big pineapple-shaped spikes appear in late summer, with deep magenta purple buds opening to pink flowers, with a rather silly tuft of leaves at the very top. Very unique and unforgettable! Clumps may be divided carefully in the spring every two years or so. This form was discovered in a San Diego nursery. Has wintered reliably in Zone 7 in the Pacific Northwest.
