(=Andropogon scoparium)A recent selection of a native grass, which used to be widely distributed all over the Great Plains. This forms sturdy, tight, upright stems in blue-green, purple closer to the base. Silver flower spikes in late summer. Superb, deep burgundy-red colour late summer into the fall. Terrific in the border or meadow. Tolerates heat and humidity. Foliage has good winter interest, but should be cut back to the ground in late winter or early spring. Clumps may be easily divided in spring. USPPP: unlicensed propagation prohibited.
