Athyrium filix-femina ‘Vernoniae Cristatum’

Crested Lady Fern

USDA Zone: 3-9

Plant number: 9.015.200

Lady Ferns were very popular in Victorian times, when hundreds of named selections existed. This variety forms a medium-sized clump of feathery green leaves, with the ends of each leaflet forked or crested into a tassel. Plants prefer a woodland setting, but will tolerate sun if given enough moisture. Since the fronds may break easily, choose a site that is out of the wind. An easy fern, with a non-spreading habit. Leaves may be trimmed to the ground in late fall or early spring. Plants are easily divided in spring, every 3 to 4 years. Deciduous.
