Astilbe thunbergii Ostrich Plume

Tall Japanese Astilbe

USDA Zone: 3-9

Plant number: 1.087.400

(='Straussenfeder') Astilbe are a popular choice for shady gardens, where they perform well if given a rich, moist soil and regular watering. This taller selection features very distinctive, large, arching rose-pink, drooping plumes appearing in midsummer, over a bushy mound of lacy green leaves. Very elegant and quite different than typical Astilbe flowers. Beautiful near a water feature but also thrives in tubs and mixed containers. Fertilize in April and June. Excellent for cutting. Seed heads may be removed, or left on the plant for winter interest. Plants should be divided every 2 to 3 years, in early spring. Will tolerate full sun, in cool summer regions.
