Lavandula stoechas

Spanish Lavender

USDA Zone: 8-9

Plant number: 1.315.120

Also called French or Butterfly Lavender. This is an interesting species, with fragrant light-green leaves that form a bushy, evergreen mound. Unusual chubby deep-purple spikes bear waving magenta petals from the top. Excellent in mixed containers, as well as a hot, sunny border. May be wintered indoors in cold regions. Drought tolerant once established. Flowers are attractive to butterflies. Shear plants back by about 1/3 in spring to force compact, bushy growth.
