Dryopteris wallichiana

Wallich’s Wood Fern

USDA Zone: 5-9

Plant number: 9.030.500

This is a semi-evergreen fern, forming an upright clump of triangular green fronds, and becoming quite huge when happy. Black stems provide an interesting contrast to the green leaflets. New fiddleheads in spring are covered in maroon hairs. Prefers a rich, moist soil and winter mulching is recommended until plants are established. Performs best in areas with cool summers. Useful as a bold specimen fern in the shade garden, growing well with Hosta and other moisture loving plants. Any tired-looking leaves may be removed in the spring.
