Polystichum setiferum ‘Herrenhausen’

Herrenhausen Shield Fern

USDA Zone: 6-9

Plant number: 9.050.270

This German fern selection forms a low mound of fine-textured feathery fronds, almost with the appearance of curly parsley. It performs best in soils that remain evenly moist, and slightly on the acidic side. Fronds remain evergreen in mild winter regions. Attractive in a shady rock garden, along the edge of a border or in containers. Remove any brown fronds in spring. Clumps may be carefully divided in spring every 4 to 5 years, if desired. An organic mulch around the plants will help to conserve moisture in summer. May well prove hardy in Zone 5 or colder, with reliable winter snowcover.
