Aconitum napellus

Blue Monkshood

USDA Zone: 2-9

Plant number: 1.015.050

An old-fashioned heirloom perennial steeped in folklore traditions, but not seen often in modern gardens. This forms an upright mound of deeply-cut green leaves, bearing tall spikes of deep-blue flowers in mid-summer. May need staking in early summer. An outstanding cut flower. Plants prefer a site that will not dry out, away from thirsty tree roots. In hot summer areas this will need protection from afternoon sun. Easily divided every 3 to 4 years, in early spring. CAUTION: toxic if eaten/harmful via skin.
