Gentiana acaulis

Trumpet Gentian

USDA Zone: 2-9

Plant number: 1.225.020

Native to the European Alps, this spring-flowering Gentian is a much-loved alpine plant that is not always the easiest to grow. It forms a low, slow-spreading carpet of pointed green leaves, bearing large upfacing funnel-shaped flowers in the most amazing shade of deep, true blue. Requires a rich, acidic and evenly moist soil, and has a distinct preference for cool-summer climates. Often performs best in a rock garden situation, where the roots can stay cool and moist. Protect from hot afternoon sun. Consider this plant to be a challenge for the more advanced gardener, though beginner’s luck is a distinct possibility!
