Scabiosa japonica var. alpina
Dwarf Pincushion Flower |
USDA Zone: 4-9 |
Plant number: 1.480.020
This dwarf, alpine form of Pincushion Flower has a very long flowering season, from early summer right into the fall. Plants form a low mound of grey-green, somewhat ferny foliage, bearing small round flowers in a soft lavender-blue shade. Perfect in the sunny rock garden, but also useful at the front of the border or in mixed containers. Flowers are attractive to butterflies. Remove faded flowers regularly to encourage more buds to form. A reliable performer, especially good for beginning gardeners. This is similar in habit to another selection, Scabiosa 'Butterfly Blue'.
