(='Prarienacht') Beebalm is a traditional favorite for the perennial border, with a striking display of richly-coloured flowers through the summer months. This older German selection features deep mauve to rosy-purple flowers, arranged in large, shaggy heads. Foliage is delightfully fragrant. Resistance to powdery mildew is average, but regular watering will help to prevent this. A favourite of both butterflies and hummingbirds. Beebalm spreads quickly: reduce clump size in early spring. Garden selections all have been bred from native North American wildflower species. Flowers are edible.
