Allium schoenoprasum ‘Album’
White-flowered Chives |
USDA Zone: 2-9 |
Plant number: 1.032.210
Chives are a favorite herb, enjoyed both for their oniony flavor as well as the showy ball-shaped flowers. This rare selection is a very old heritage variety that came originally from Newfoundland. Clumps will make a stunning display of crisp, snow-white flowers in late spring, over a low mound of grassy foliage. Use this towards the front of a sunny border, also useful in tubs and containers. An easy and long-lived perennial. Remove faded flowers to prevent self seeding, as the resulting plants will revert to regular chives. Nice as a cut flower, fresh or dried.
