Duchesnea indica
Mock Strawberry |
USDA Zone: 3-9 |
Plant number: 1.196.500
Somewhat similar in appearance to a regular strawberry, this plant is a fast-spreading evergreen groundcover for shady areas or sunny, moist sites. It forms a mat of green foliage, studded with tiny yellow flowers for most of the season, which develop into showy red fruits. Berries are dry and tasteless. Plants increase themselves by sending out above-ground runners in all directions. Newly rooted small plants may be moved at almost any time. This plant tolerates moderate foot traffic once established. May be mown if desired in the spring. Spreads too quickly for the flower border.
