Epimedium ‘Fire Dragon’

Barrenwort

USDA Zone: 5-9

Plant number: 1.198.330

Barrenwort are superb shade-garden plants, excellent for edging or massing. This selection forms a bushy mound of dark green, heart-shaped leaves bearing delicate, nodding, purple star-shaped flowers with yellow spurs that rise above the foliage in late spring. The leaves have a distinctive brick red edge as they mature and turn burgundy in fall. Flowers better in part shade. Prefers soil with plenty of organic matter and even moisture. Once established will tolerate more dryness. Also tolerate competition from tree roots and are an excellent choice for dry shade. The plants are semi-evergreen to evergreen.
