Luzula sylvatica
Greater Wood Rush |
USDA Zone: 4-9 |
Plant number: 8.255.350
An easy and versatile grass-like plant, ideal for massing as a groundcover in any shady area, even in dry shade. Plants form a low mound of dark-green leathery leaves, spreading to form a thick, weed-proof patch. Although vigorous this is not at all invasive. Combines beautifully with other shade loving plants, such as Hostas or ferns. Short spikes of green flowers appear in spring. Any brown leaf tips may be trimmed with scissors in early spring. Clumps are easily divided in spring or early fall. Evergreen in mild winter areas.
