Osmunda claytoniana
Interrupted Fern |
USDA Zone: 2-9 |
Plant number: 9.046.070
Interrupted Fern is native throughout much of eastern North America, where if thrives in woodland areas with rich, moist soil on the acidic side. It forms an upright mound of green sterile fronds, oddly interrupted by jet-black fertile fronds partway up the stem. The fronds are an attractive light-green colour, and are nice additions to cut flower arrangements. Adapts well to garden conditions, even in direct sun with plenty of moisture. Medium to large in size. Deciduous. Received a Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (1997).
