Podophyllum pleianthum
Chinese May Apple |
USDA Zone: 6-9 |
Plant number: 1.426.500
This exotic-looking plant is a close cousin to our native May Apple. Upright stems appear in spring, bearing large starfish-shaped green leaves with a glossy sheen. Clusters of deep-red flowers change first to silver, then finally into yellow fleshy fruits. At home in the woodland garden, this requires a rich moist soil. Unusual and rare. CAUTION: Harmful if eaten.
