| Also known as Wine Cups, this is a native prairie plant with an amazingly long season of bloom. Plants form a sprawling mound of deeply cut green leaves, studded with satiny, bright magenta-purple flowers on and off throughout the summer and fall. Tolerates heat and summer drought due to its deep taproot. Nice cascading over walls or rocks, also useful as a filler in large containers. Sometimes used in naturalized meadow or prairie plantings. Plants appreciate good drainage, especially in regions with wet soil in winter.
