 | Common name : Cornflower |
 | |
| Also known as Hardhats or Spanish Buttons, for the round and very hard flower heads. This is a species of cornflower not often seen in gardens, forming a bushy clump of coarse green leaves. Upright stems of deep violet-purple flowers appear in summer, and these are useful for cutting. Trim plants back after blooming to prevent self seeding. A naturalized wildflower over much of North America, this does have potential to escape from cultivation, so site carefully.
