 | Cryptotaenia japonica atropurpurea |
 | Common name : Purple-leaved Mitsuba |
 | |
| Also known as Japanese Parsley, this has only recently arrived in North America. Plants form a low mound of purple-black foliage, making it an exceptional contrast plant. Small umbels of whitish flowers appear in summer. Excellent in pots and tubs or the border. Inclined to self sow all over, but removing flower heads will help to prevent this. Leaves and stems are edible, sometimes added to soups and salads for their celery-like flavor, but most often used as a garnish. Best in a moist, rich soil.
