PerennialHeritage Perennial Profile

Here's the complete description for this Heritage Perennial. Drop in any time to see the rest of our collection.

 Plant Number: 1.196.500USDA Zone: 3 - 9
Duchesnea indica
Common name :  Mock Strawberry
Somewhat similar in appearance to a regular strawberry, this plant is a fast-spreading evergreen groundcover for shady areas or sunny, moist sites. It forms a mat of green foliage, studded with tiny yellow flowers for most of the season, which develop into showy red fruits. Berries are dry and tasteless. Plants increase themselves by sending out above-ground runners in all directions. Newly rooted small plants may be moved at almost any time. This plant tolerates moderate foot traffic once established. May be mown if desired in the spring. Spreads too quickly for the flower border.

What others say about this plant...
Mock strawberry is a tiny, low-growing plant that seems to thrive in deep shade as well as in full sun, but watch out! Its running stems are very quick to jump the fence and invade neighboring plantings. And the plant thrives in lawns!; Larry Hodgson, Perennials for Every Purpose
