| Quite different from the usual blue forms of Sea Holly, this one is a native North American wildflower. Plants form a low clump of grassy, yucca-like leaves, bearing tall stems of creamy-white flowers, like little golf balls, in mid to late summer. An unusual cut flower. Fits nicely into the sunny perennial border, but also a good candidate for more relaxed forms of gardening, like meadow plantings or gravel gardens. Tolerates moist or dry conditions. Attractive to butterflies.

What others say about this plant...

The stiff, spiky rosettes of our native rattlesnake master… do indeed mimic gray-blue yuccas, though the flowers that open in small sprays above their four-foot stems look more like frosted white thistles than the open, creamy bells of true yuccas.; Anne Lovejoy, The American Mixed Border |
