| A seldom-encountered species, forming a bushy clump of grey-green foliage at the base. Upright stems bear loads of small crimson-red pincushion flowers throughout the summer and into autumn, one of the few red-flowering perennials to bloom for the whole season. Crimson Scabious is especially useful in warm summer regions, growing well in well-drained sunny sites and most useful in containers or tubs. Plants may be short-lived but will generally self seed each year. Combines beautifully with silver foliage. Attractive to butterflies. Flowers are occasionally soft pink.

What others say about this plant...
|
Pure crimson is not a common colour in border flowers; this throws up many curving stems from the basal clump, each one branching into several stalks and each has a lovely, pure dark crimson, very double, dense 'pin cushion' 2 inches across. Good with Rose 'Buff Beauty'.; Graham Stuart Thomas, Perennial Garden Plants |
