| Also known as Honesty, this is a favourite old-fashioned biennial. Showy sprays of pretty purple or white flowers in spring are followed by interesting papery silver dollar sized seedpods. The branches of translucent dried pods are excellent for dried arrangements, after the husks are removed in late summer. Plants usually self-seed and appear here and there in the garden, but happiest in a moist shady area. Flowers may attract butterflies.

What others say about this plant...
|
Honesty… is one of those hardy biennials that you won't lose once you have it. It self seeds abundantly, and the gardener's only task is to remove the seedlings from where they are not wanted. The plant is best known for its decorative seed pods. When ripe and dry they are ghostly pale, but are also handsome when used green in flower arrangements, in early summer.; Christopher Lloyd, The Well-Tempered Garden |
