| (Formerly Oenothera missouriensis) This sun-loving plant produces large yellow, crepe-textured flowers all summer long, resembling poppies in appearance. Flowers are followed by unusual winged seed pods Especially suited to hot, dry sites with well-drained soil. A good choice for the rock garden or as edging. Remove faded flowers to encourage more buds to form. New growth can be slow to appear in the spring, so be patient. A native North American wildflower. Drought tolerant once established. Tolerates summer heat and humidity.

What others say about this plant...
|
Deservedly one of the most popular of its tribe… It is a prostrate, sprawling herbaceous perennial, hardy if not waterlogged, and making annual stems that ramble for about 15 inches in every direction over the soil surface. So it is excellent as a front-line plant where required to break the hard edge of paving. In winter it disappears completely and is easily destroyed by the officious and unwary.; Christopher Lloyd, The Well-Tempered Garden |
