| The foliage of Sweet Flag releases a cinnamon fragrance when crushed and was used as an air freshener in Medieval times. This handsome variegated form has iris-like leaves striped lengthwise with creamy-white and green. The green flowers are insignificant. Excellent at the waterside, or even growing in shallow water. Also nice in a moist sunny border. Clumps may be easily divided in early spring. An attractive accent plant.

What others say about this plant...

Sweet flags do best in moist, soggy areas, but they'll also grow nicely in well-drained garden soil as long as it never dries out completely. They thrive in full sun to partial shade. They'll spread somewhat where they are happy, but sweet flags are never invasive.; Larry Hodgson, Perennials for Every Purpose |
