Alstroemeria psittacina ‘Royal Star’
Variegated Parrot Feather |
USDA Zone: 7-9 |
Plant number: 1.032.870
Formerly known as Alstroemeria psittacina ‘Variegata'. This selection of Alstroemeria is quite unlike the types so often used as a commercial cut flower. Plants form a medium-sized clump of coarse green leaves, edged in creamy-white. Taller stems of flowers appear in mid-summer, in an odd blend of green and red, with maroon markings, encouraging the name Parrot Feather. Unique for cutting. Tolerates summer heat and humidity. Where hardy, the fleshy roots are easily divided in early spring. Gardeners in colder areas can try growing this in pots, bringing into a cool basement for the winter. CAUTION: May cause skin allergy.
