Asarum maximum
Panda Face Wild Ginger |
USDA Zone: 7-9 |
Plant number: 1.079.550
There are several wild gingers that are superb plants for the shady woodland garden or border. This rare Chinese species forms a clump of glossy, heart-shaped leaves, dark green with silvery markings or marbling. Flowers are white trumpets, rimmed with black but hiding among the leaves. Evergreen where hardy. Slugs can cause problems by feeding in spring. Growing this in a container is one way to help prevent slug damage. Plants must have a humus-rich soil and regular moisture through the summer months. Tolerant of hot, humid summer regions.
