Cerastium alpinum var. lanatum

Woolly Snow-in-summer

USDA Zone: 2-9

Plant number: 1.130.020

A very slow-growing alpine plant, forming a low carpet or cushion of fuzzy silver-grey leaves. Short stems of starry white flowers appear in late spring and early summer. Best grown in the rock garden, in a gravel scree or alpine trough garden. Tolerates drought and poor sandy soils, once established. Divide every two to three years in spring or early autumn. Mulching around the plant with pea gravel will help to prevent rotting in wet winter areas. For the extra trouble of growing this, it’s a little gem for the rock garden and well worth the effort.
