Coronilla varia
Crown Vetch |
USDA Zone: 3-9 |
Plant number: 1.167.050
This is an aggressive groundcover plant, often seen used along highways for slope stabilization. Plants form a quick-spreading patch of dark green, ferny leaves, bearing masses of light or dark pink clover-like flowers all summer long. Too aggressive for most garden situations, but great for planting in difficult sunny areas. Plants spread underground, from the root. Easily divided in early spring, even small pieces of root will grow. Could be used in a naturalized meadow situation, also excellent for shoreline plantings. Somewhat salt tolerant. Prune to the ground in fall or spring.
