Myosotidium hortensia
Chatham Island Forget-me-not |
USDA Zone: 8-9 |
Plant number: 1.369.050
A bizarre and wonderful plant native to islands off of New Zealand. The large glossy green leaves look a bit like Hosta or Bergenia, a nice background to big clusters of sky-blue Forget-me-not style flowers that appear during the summer. This must have a rich, moist but well-drained soil. Performs best in regions with cool summers such as the Pacific Northwest. Combines beautifully Primula or Rodgersia since all enjoy the same moist conditions. May need protection from slugs and also from occasional cold snaps in winter. Evergreen. Grows well in tubs or other containers.
