Penstemon heterophyllus ‘True Blue’
Foothill Beard-tongue |
USDA Zone: 8-9 |
Plant number: 1.405.860
This species of Beard-tongue is native to California and Oregon, where it grows on dry hillsides. Plants form a low, shrubby clump of evergreen leaves, bearing spikes of clear-blue flowers for weeks on end. Removing faded flowers will encourage more buds to form all summer long. Attractive to both butterflies and hummingbirds. Needs good drainage. Performs very well in the rock garden, as an edging, or in mixed tubs and containers. Plants should be pruned back to about 2 inches in early spring, since the new stems provide the best colour. Drought tolerant, once established.
