Blue Sanicle was just recently introduced from China, where it grows in moist mountain woodlands. Plants form a low mound of divided bronzy-green leaves, with taller branching heads of small mauve-blue flowers appearing for weeks on end in the spring. The overall effect is a bit like a dwarf Meadow-rue. This is a good choice for combining with spring-flowering bulbs of all kinds, but particularly yellow narcissus! Pairs beautifully with Hostas, ferns and other woodland plants. Best in a rich, moist soil. Plants will self seed but not in a troublesome way. Attractive to butterflies.
