(Formerly Cassia hebecarpa) This is a sturdy, upright-growing member of the pea family, native to eastern North America. Plants form a large bushy clump of dark green, lacy leaves, bearing large heads or spikes of golden-yellow flowers in summer. Dark brown seed pods hold interest well into the winter. A unique specimen plant for the border! Long-lived and hardy. Tolerant of hot, dry sites once established. Ideal for naturalizing in meadow or prairie plantings. This was often planted in 19th century gardens, but is little known today. Excellent for cutting.
