Plant number: 1.289.040Also known as Orris Root. Of great historical importance, the root of this iris is still used today to produce the Orris powder used in potpourri and perfume making. Classified as an Intermediate Bearded Iris, this produces flowers in late spring in an unusual mother-of-pearl or soft grey-blue shade, with contrasting yellow beards. Choose a sunny position, with a well-drained, loamy soil. Bearded Iris are heavy feeders, so plan to fertilize in early spring, and again in late summer.
