Knautia macedonica
Crimson Scabious |
USDA Zone: 4-9 |
Plant number: 1.299.100
A seldom-encountered species, forming a bushy clump of grey-green foliage at the base. Upright stems bear loads of small crimson-red pincushion flowers throughout the summer and into autumn, one of the few red-flowering perennials to bloom for the whole season. Crimson Scabious is especially useful in warm summer regions, growing well in well-drained sunny sites and most useful in containers or tubs. Plants may be short-lived but will generally self seed each year. Combines beautifully with silver foliage. Attractive to butterflies. Flowers are occasionally soft pink.
