Here's the complete description for this Heritage Perennial. Drop in any time to see the rest of our collection.

 Plant Number: 1.079.450USDA Zone: 3 - 9
Asarum canadense
Common name :  Canadian Wild Ginger
This is a first-rate groundcover plant for shady areas, native to the woodlands of Eastern North America. It forms a solid patch of downy green kidney-shaped leaves, with ground-hugging brown flowers hiding beneath. Takes a couple of years to settle into place, then begins to go a great job of colonizing. Deciduous in winter. Combines well with Hosta or ferns in a moist woodland setting. This is more vigorous than the European Wild Ginger but is easy to control and not considered invasive. Clumps may be divided in the spring or early autumn.

What others say about this plant...
All wild gingers are worth growing, but this is the one that gardeners seem to like most. The soft, velvety texture of the light green, heart-shaped 6-inch leaves is its most attractive point. The leaves are deciduous, which makes this species far more adaptable than others, as it is less susceptible to late frosts and other vagaries of the early spring climate.; Larry Hodgson, Perennials for Every Purpose
