PerennialHeritage Perennial Profile

Here's the complete description for this Heritage Perennial. Drop in any time to see the rest of our collection.

 Plant Number: 1.340.150USDA Zone: 2 - 9
Lysimachia punctata
Common name :  Yellow Loosestrife
Not to be confused with the noxious weed Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria). This is a vigorous species that has been grown in gardens since Victorian times. Plants form a bushy, fast-spreading clump of green leaves, with loose spikes of bright-yellow starry flowers appearing in early to mid summer. In the border this will need to be reduced in size every year or two in order to keep from taking over. Tolerates shade under trees, with regular summer watering. Attractive to butterflies. Nice for cutting.

What others say about this plant...
There are some plants, normally found in damp borders, that surprise us by revelling in a few inches of water. One such is the yellow loosestrife, Lysimachia punctata. I had never admitted it into my borders on account of its coarse and invasive habit. But in a fair-sized pond its robust nature enables it to compete with other similar, or even more freely colonizing, companions.; Christopher Lloyd, The Well-Tempered Garden
