Amsonia ciliata ‘Spring Sky’
Fringed Blue Star |
USDA Zone: 4-9 |
Plant number: 1.034.180
This is a fantastic selection of the southeastern North America native Amsonia ciliata. Flowers are larger, more prominent, fully opened and last longer than the straight species. It is long-blooming and compact in habit. The plant forms a low mound of green willow-like leaves, bearing clusters of dark-blue buds on erect stems. These buds open into delicate soft-blue flowers in mid-spring and last for several weeks. Leaves turn golden-yellow to bronze with the onset of cooler temperatures. Plants are long-lived, ideal for massing or growing near the front of the sunny border. Easy and carefree. Drought tolerant. Discovered at the Henry Foundation, Philadelphia, PA. If plants splay open after blooming, just shear back by half to encourage fresh bushy growth.
