Cypripedium reginae
Hardy Lady’s-slipper |
USDA Zone: 3-9 |
Plant number: 1.172.350
This is a rare and seldom-offered hardy orchid, native to regions of Eastern North America. Plants must have an evenly-moist but well-drained woodland soil, preferably neutral to slightly alkaline. Flowers have an inflated rose-pink lip or pouch, backed by three white sepals, appearing in late spring. Not a good choice for the average sunny border, but not difficult if the proper conditions are provided. Plants are hybrids raised from seed and nursery grown by Frosch® Exclusive Perennials — not harvested from the wild. Will probably perform poorly in Southern regions with hot and humid summers. Protect from hot afternoon sun.
