Eucomis ‘Joy’s Purple’
Pineapple Lily |
USDA Zone: 8-10 |
Plant number: 1.207.050
Pineapple Lily is a tender bulb, best grown in pots in cold regions for wintering indoors. Gardeners in Zones 8 and up may enjoy these as hardy perennials. This selection forms a large rosette of strap-shaped leaves, green at first then changing to bronzy purple. Big pineapple-shaped spikes appear in late summer, with deep magenta purple buds opening to pink flowers, with a rather silly tuft of leaves at the very top. Very unique and unforgettable! Clumps may be divided carefully in the spring every two years or so.
