Here's the complete description for this Heritage Perennial. Drop in any time to see the rest of our collection.

 Plant Number: 1.252.250USDA Zone: 4 - 9
Helianthus salicifolius
Common name :  Willow-leaved Sunflower
Native to the Eastern US, this imposing plant makes an unusual specimen in the sunny border. Very tall stems are clothed in long, drooping green leaves, sometimes said to look like a giant asparagus fern. Large golden-yellow daisies are produced in the autumn. Flowers and foliage are both excellent for cutting. Clumps may be easily divided in early spring. Stems sometimes require support to prevent flopping. Pinching in June and July will force a more compact habit. Attracts butterflies.

What others say about this plant...
This deceives people into thinking it a lily, white its mop-like growing point puts you in mind of a giant papyrus. Whatever it does or does not resemble, this is a most exciting and imposing plant.; Christopher Lloyd, Foliage Plants
